Five Events on the Seventeenth of Ramadan: the Martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Bloodbath in the Al-Aqsa Courtyard
The seventeenth of Ramadan in the Hijri calendar stands out as a significant day that shifts the strategic balance of the people in the Valley of Badr. And on that day, the domain of the just caliphate was sealed with the martyrdom of Imam Ali. First, the Day of Al-Furqan, a change in strategic balance. The Battle of Badr was not merely a battle to recapture the caravan; it was a major strategic war aimed at freeing wealth as retaliation for the Quraysh’s seizure of the wealth of the Muhajirin, which aimed to destabilise the economy of Mecca and cut the trade route to Syria. The value of military ‘shura’ is clearly seen at Badr; where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) altered the positions of the troops based on the advice of Al-Habbab bin Al-Mundhir to seize the water wells and establish a command encampment on the guidance of Sa’d bin Mu’adh. Meanwhile, aid from above descended to calm the hearts, so that the day ended with the killing of the enemy leaders on the path of Allah, the Almighty.
