Five die in traffic accident

BREBES, Central Java: Five people died and three others were injured when a minibus they were traveling in plunged six meters into the Songgom River here Saturday.

Police said the passengers, residents of Bekasi, West Java, were on the way to Purworejo when bad weather hit the area. The driver Sudarmo, 50, lost control of the vehicle in pouring rain.

Those who died were Sudarmo, Aristo, 36, and his wife Yatmiati, and two children: Alam Wiyuda and Arif Rasarito.

The injured were named as Turiman, Agus Setiawan and Sutinah. (wah/swe)
