Five dead following US attack on wedding ceremony in Iran

Tehran (ANTARA) - Health authorities in Iran have reported that the number of fatalities resulting from an attack, suspected to have originated from United States forces, which struck a wedding ceremony in southern Iran, has increased to five, with 70 others injured.

“Asieh Moulaeinejad passed away due to severe injuries. Therefore, the death toll from the attack has reached five lives,” said Pejman Shahrokhi, Head of Medical Sciences at Hormozgan University, on Thursday (3/9).

The Iranian government stated that on the night of 1 September, a wedding ceremony in the Sirik District, Hormozgan Province, was hit by an attack suspected to be from the US, killing four people and injuring 68 others.

In response to reports of the wedding ceremony being hit, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that US forces did not target civilians.

According to CENTCOM, the attack targeted several military facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including air defence systems, radar stations, naval facilities, and communication facilities.
