Five-day week comes to an end

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: The Aceh Provincial Administration has decided to resume working on Saturdays, concluding that the five- day scheme was not working after more than one year's trial.

Administration employees will resume working on Saturdays beginning on Jan. 17, M. Natsir Aly, the administration's chief spokesman told Antara.

This also means that their working hours will be shortened. On Mondays to Thursdays, the working hours will be 7.45 to 14.45 a.m., on Fridays between 7.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and on Saturdays from 07.45 a.m.to 12.45 p.m..

Natsir added that the return to the six-day working week had been approved by Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M.

The Antara report said under the five-day working week, which involved longer working hours, many government employees did not return to work after their lunch break. (emb)
