JAKARTA — The Coordinator Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has identified five railway stations that will experience particularly high congestion during the 2026 Eid exodus period.

Two of these stations are located in Jakarta: Gambir Station and Pasar Senen Station.

“Then there are stations in Yogyakarta and Surabaya, including both Pasar Turi and Gubeng,” said AHY after observing the exodus traffic flow at Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

For this year, 49,886 trains—both long-distance and local services—have been prepared to serve the public. This figure represents a 2.1 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

Additionally, AHY noted that five million passengers are expected to travel by train during the 2026 Eid exodus period.

“Today alone, approximately 24,000 passengers departed from Pasar Senen. This represents a significant surge from regular days, which typically see only around 12,000–15,000 passengers,” AHY explained.

AHY stated that the state railway company (KAI) has deployed teams at vulnerable points prone to incidents or disruptions.

“We remain hopeful that we can maintain KAI’s on-time performance through the various preparedness measures in place, including ensuring that our train carriages and locomotives are in optimal condition,” he said.
