Five BPK Civil Servants Caught in KPK Sting Operation in Jakarta and South Sumatra

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested five civil servants (ASN) from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) in connection with an alleged bribery case implicating Muara Enim Regent Edison. The sting operation (OTT) was conducted across multiple locations in Jakarta and South Sumatra. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated the operation was part of a series, with individuals secured both in Jakarta and the Sumsel region. The case relates to bribes concerning the procurement of smart boards, with KPK suspecting the payments were connected to BPK’s audit findings on the procurement, including items such as smart TVs previously detailed in the case’s construction. Budi noted that evidence overlaps with a prior case, explaining that of the Rp 500 million provided by a private party to the Muara Enim regional government, a portion was taken by government officials to Muara Enim and was the subject of a previous sting, while another portion was allegedly intended as a bribe linked to BPK findings. In total, 11 individuals have been secured: six from the initial sting cluster and the five BPK civil servants in this second cluster. The KPK has yet to disclose the identities of the BPK employees and has 24 hours to determine their legal status.
