Police have received a report that five Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly held captive in Gerokgak, Buleleng, Bali. One of the victims managed to escape and report the incident to authorities.

Buleleng Police public relations officer Yohana Rosalin Diaz confirmed the report regarding the alleged unlawful detention of the foreign nationals. The case was reported on 17 February by the victim who escaped, Abdul Hossain Joel.

“That is correct. We have received a report of an alleged criminal act of unlawful detention involving five Bangladeshi nationals. The case is currently under investigation,” said Yohana on Sunday (22/2/2026).

Abdul reported the alleged perpetrator as Nuruzzaman, also known as Rajib or Babu (25), who is also a Bangladeshi national. Abdul told police that he and four companions had been promised employment in Australia by the suspect.

Abdul’s four companions were identified as Islam Md Din (36), Abdul Rahman Md Ayub Khan (28), Md Shamim Miah (32), and Mohammad Sana Ullah (40). They are known to have arrived in Bali on 19 January.

The five victims were subsequently taken to a hotel in the Pemuteran area of Buleleng. It was at this location that the victims were allegedly held captive, bound with tape and rope, and threatened with a knife.

“The victims stated they were tied up and threatened with a sharp weapon. They felt threatened and were in fear,” Diaz explained.

Gerokgak Police Station forwarded the report to Buleleng Police. Authorities are now investigating the case.

“We are still conducting examinations of witnesses and victims, and carrying out investigative steps to fully uncover this incident,” Yohana concluded.
