Fit and Proper Test for BI Governor Candidate Destry to Be Held Soon
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is ready to schedule a fit and proper test for the sole candidate for Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor, Destry Damayanti, once the DPR recess period ends.
Deputy Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri said his team will immediately coordinate with commission leaders to determine the timing of the fit and proper test.
“Once we are back in session, we can proceed directly with the fit and proper test. I will first coordinate with fellow commission leaders on the schedule,” Hanif told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
Commission XI is scheduled to resume its activities on 14 August 2026, coinciding with the President’s State Address and the submission of the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN) along with the Financial Note.
Hanif indicated that a leadership meeting of Commission XI could be held promptly to discuss the scheduling of the fit and proper test for Destry, who has been proposed by President Prabowo Subianto as the sole candidate for BI Governor.
According to Hanif, Destry is a figure with strong capacity in the economic and monetary fields. In addition to her extensive experience at Bank Indonesia, Destry is also considered to understand the various challenges facing the central bank going forward.
“I think she is a highly dependable, professional figure with broad experience who knows the ins and outs of monetary affairs and Bank Indonesia,” Hanif said.
He expressed hope that Destry’s leadership will be able to maintain economic stability and strengthen BI’s role amid still-dynamic global challenges.
“We certainly hope the situation will improve under Bu Destry’s leadership,” he said.
As is known, President Prabowo Subianto has proposed Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for BI Governor to the DPR RI through a presidential letter. Destry currently serves as Acting Governor of BI following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo.
