A fishing vessel, KM Al Mujib, sank allegedly after being struck by a cargo barge in the waters near Rakit Island and Biawak Island, Indramayu Regency. As a result, two fishermen died and four fishermen went missing.

The accident involving KM Al Mujib, which weighed six gross tonnes (GT), occurred on Saturday, 28 February 2026 at approximately 22:00 WIB. In addition to two fishermen dying and four others going missing, two fishermen were rescued in the incident.

According to AKP Asep Suryana, head of the Water Police unit of Indramayu Police, the incident began when KM Al Mujib departed from Karangsong Port in Indramayu heading towards the waters of Rakit Island and Biawak Island on Saturday, 28 February 2026 at approximately 13:00 WIB. The vessel, carrying eight crew members, was commanded by Captain Jupri Priyanto.

Upon arrival at their destination waters at approximately 16:00 WIB, the fishermen immediately cast their nets and cleaned the vessel until 19:00 WIB. After finishing their activities, they rested on the vessel with the engine turned off until 22:00 WIB.

β€œAt that moment, one of the crew members woke up and saw a cargo barge with hull number 3009 approaching and directly struck KM Al Mujib on the left side of the hull,” explained Asep on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
