The fishing vessel KM Marina 7 caught fire in the waters off Pulau Ular, Ciwandan, Cilegon. One crew member was reported dead in the incident.

The fire occurred on Thursday (19 February) at 08:36 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), at coordinates 05°57.090” S and 105°54.547” E. The location was approximately 19.60 nautical miles from the Carita Pier.

Initial reports indicated plumes of smoke visible on the port side of KM Marina 7. The sighting was reported by the vessel MV Glory Majesty to VTS Merak at 08:36 WIB.

At 08:42 WIB, the vessel MV Vianca reported that the fishing boat KM Sumber Sejati was moving towards the scene to evacuate the crew of KM Marina 7. By 08:58 WIB, KMP Portlink V confirmed that all 16 crew members of KM Marina 7 had been evacuated and were being transported to the Lanal Banten Pier.

Of the 16 individuals, 15 survived whilst one was pronounced dead.

“Based on preliminary data, 15 individuals were successfully rescued, whilst one person was reported dead. As of now, casualty data is still being compiled by the relevant authorities,” said the Head of Basarnas Banten, Al Amrad, on Thursday (19 February 2025).

Basarnas Banten officers conducted intensive coordination with VTS Merak regarding the incident. At 09:45 WIB, the SAR team deployed RIB 02 Banten to the scene, whilst the Merak SAR Standby Unit proceeded to Lanal Banten Pier for further treatment of the casualties.

“Weather conditions at the time of the incident were reported as overcast and relatively conducive to the evacuation process. The cause of the KM Marina 7 fire remains under investigation by the authorities,” he said.
