Fishermen warned of tropical storms

CILACAP, Central Java: The local office of Meteorology and Geophysics warned fishermen yesterday of big waves until November.

Big waves have officially killed 25 people in the past five months in this southern coastal regency, where 58 suffered a similar fate last year.

A source at the office said that a tropical storm, Rhonda, was over the Indian Ocean.

Tropical storms usually occur between March and June.

Rhonda has wind speeds between 140 and 170 kilometers an hour, and can cause heavy rain and big waves that last for up to 24 hours. (wah/pan)
