Fisherman Missing While Spearfishing in Labuan Alas Waters, Sumbawa, Found Dead
Syamsudin (42), a fisherman from Tarusa Batu Hamlet, Tarusa Village, Buer District, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), who had been reported missing while spearfishing in Labuan Alas waters, was found dead. The victim was located by a joint SAR team.
Coordinator of the Sumbawa SAR Post, Kurais, said Syamsudin was found dead after a search was conducted on the water and from the air using drones on Sunday (16/8/2026) at 09.45 Wita.
“The victim’s body was found still in the vicinity of the incident site,” said Kurais on Sunday (16/8/2026).
Kurais said the body had been evacuated to Buer Community Health Centre before being handed over to the family for burial.
“We express our highest appreciation to all elements of the joint SAR team and the local community who worked hard to assist the search process from the first day until the victim was found and evacuated,” Kurais explained.
It was previously reported that a man named Syamsudin (42), a resident of Tarusa Batu Hamlet, Tarusa Village, Buer District, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), had been reported missing. Syamsudin went missing while spearfishing in Labuan Alas waters, Sumbawa.
Coordinator of the Sumbawa SAR Post, Kurais, said Syamsudin was known to have set out to sea to spearfish on Friday (14/8/2026) at around 18.40 Wita. However, he did not return to shore until 23.00 Wita.
Central Lombok Resident Dies While Fishing
Zulfan (33), a resident of Gerantung Village, Praya Tengah District, Central Lombok, NTB, was reported missing while fishing in Batujai Dam on Sunday (16/8/2026). The victim was found lifeless after being searched for several hours.
Based on information received, the victim was known to be missing after a black Honda Beat motorbike was left unattended at Batujai Dam. Residents then tried to find the owner, but to no avail.
Residents immediately reported the matter to the Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) Office. At around 15.30 Wita, officers from the Mataram SAR Office arrived and immediately began the search.
“After receiving the information, the team immediately moved to the location. Upon arrival, we conducted observations and prepared for diving around the point suspected to be where the victim drowned,” said Mataram Search and Rescue Office Rescue Team member Pradnyana Manuaba in a press release.
After the search was conducted, the victim was found dead by the joint SAR team at a depth of around 5 metres at 17.57 Wita. The body was then taken to Praya Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
