Fish-catching tradition in Banten serves as community gathering ahead of Ramadan
Residents gathered to catch fish during the Marak tradition at Situ Citaman lake in Tamansari Village, Baros, Serang Regency, Banten, on Wednesday (18/2/2026).
The Marak tradition — a communal fish-catching event in which Situ Citaman lake is drained — is held to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah whilst also serving as an occasion for fostering fellowship among local residents.
A child displayed fish caught during the tradition, as scores of villagers waded into the lake together to take part in the annual event.
