Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Head of BKPM and Danantara CEO, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, revealed that investment realisation in the first quarter of 2025, which reached Rp 465.2 trillion, absorbed more than 594,000 workers.

The investment was dominated by domestic direct investment (PMDN), which had a positive impact on job creation amid rising layoffs in the manufacturing sector.

"We hope this important achievement continues to receive government attention in monitoring investment realisation," said Rosan, as quoted on Thursday (1 May).

In line with this, Executive Director of NEXT Indonesia Center, Christiantoko, assessed that the government should more prominently highlight the tangible impact of investment on employment absorption in every official announcement. He noted this was particularly important given that household consumption's contribution to the Indonesian economy reached approximately 54 per cent in 2024, as recorded by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

"These are two aspects that have been overlooked in terms of informational value in investment realisation announcements, despite their achievements being very significant," said Christiantoko.

He added that an increase in the number of employed citizens would maintain welfare and strengthen purchasing power, which would ultimately support national economic resilience.

Furthermore, the government has established a Layoff Task Force (Satgas PHK) as a form of concern for workers' welfare, in accordance with President Prabowo's directives.

"A prosperous society that is employed will strengthen national economic resilience," he affirmed.
