First Pretrial Hearing in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case to Be Held Tomorrow

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The pretrial challenge to the acid-attack case against human rights activist and KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus will be heard at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (20 May 2026). The suit is registered under number 62/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL, with the Metro Jaya Regional Police’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation as the defendant. “Besok akan diadakan sidang pertama dari rencana kami memasukkan permohonan praperadilan terhadap proses undue delay LP Model A yang sudah berjalan,” said Andrie Yunus’ legal representative, Gema Gita Persada, at the Metro Jaya Regional Police headquarters on Tuesday (19 May 2026). The reason, as their legal team, they have never been informed of any information regarding the termination of the investigation or the transfer to Puspom TNI. “Kami juga sama-sama ketahui tidak pernah ada proses penghentian perkara secara formal yang itu kami mintakan juga pertanggungjawabannya agar proses penegakan hukum terhadap kasus yang menimpa kawan kami ini dapat berlangsung dengan sebaik-baiknya,” Gema said. Another of Andrie’s lawyers, Wildanu Syahril Guntur, said that in the suit they request that the police investigation be resumed. “Yang kami harapkan tentunya dilanjutkannya kembali proses penyidikan teror terhadap rekan kami Andrie Yunus dengan penyiraman air keras,” Guntur said at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (30 April 2026). Moreover, independent investigations conducted by the lawyers’ team revealed civilian actors’ involvement in the incident, reinforcing their motive to have the case heard in the ordinary courts. At the same time, four suspects from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) will face an indictment hearing at Military Court II-08 Jakarta. Coordinator of the KontraS Working Board, Dimas Bagus Arya, said the incident occurred at 23:37 WIB as Andrie Yunus was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta. While passing the location, two perpetrators riding a Honda Beat, model years 2016 to 2021, approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).
