A first lieutenant from the Yogyakarta Police Resort, Iptu Nur Alim, passed away while carrying out security duties in the Tugu area, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday. “Yes, it’s true (he passed away) this afternoon. Iptu Nur Alim, who was serving as the Head of the Tugu Security Post, Yogyakarta,” said Deputy Head of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Police Resort, Ipda R Anton BS, on Wednesday (25/3/2026) afternoon. Iptu Nur Alim normally served as the Traffic Unit Head of the Gedongtengen Police Sector and was assigned as the Head of the Tugu Security Post in the Jogja area for this year’s Ketupat Operation. During the implementation of the 2026 Ketupat Progo Operation, Iptu Nur Alim led security in the Tugu Jogja area and its surroundings. As the Head of the Security Post, he was on duty for 24 hours to ensure security and smooth traffic flow. “Suspected due to fatigue while on duty securing the Eid holiday,” added the Public Relations Chief. Although there has been no official investigation into Iptu Nur Alim’s death, the preliminary suspicion is physical exhaustion from non-stop duties amid the dense Eid al-Fitr 1447 H homecoming traffic. To date, the 2026 Ketupat Progo Operation continues with the involvement of thousands of combined personnel. The main objective of this operation is to ensure smooth traffic flow, prevent congestion, and maintain security at Yogyakarta’s main tourist destinations such as Malioboro, Tugu, and surrounding areas.
