First issue repros are on sale
JAKARTA (JP): Singapore's only known copy of The Straits
Times' inaugural issue has been sent for re-restoration to the
National Archives of Singapore.
The Straits Times reported yesterday that the copy, which
belongs to the National Library, was last restored in 1992.
It was thought that the Times House library had an original
copy of this issue, but it is actually a reproduction, and only
of the first page.
To celebrate The Straits Times 150th anniversary, authorized
reproductions of the first issue's front page are on sale, along
with commemorative sets of TransitLink fare cards. (mds)
