First Hearing in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case Scheduled for 29 April 2026
The Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta has transferred the case file of four suspects in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. Spokesperson for the Jakarta Military Court, Lieutenant Colonel Arin Fauzan, stated that the court received the case file this morning, Thursday, 16 April 2026.
“The case file has been received from the military prosecutor today around 09:45 WIB,” he said to Tempo via written message on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
Arin stated that the court would next review the case file. If the file is declared complete, the court will hold the first hearing for the acid attack incident carried out by four TNI soldiers on 29 April 2026.
“Planned for Wednesday, 29 April 2026, if the file is declared complete in terms of material and formal requirements,” he said.
In this case, the Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta will charge the perpetrators with layered articles. The layered articles in question are Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the KUHP. Then, Article 468 paragraph (1) KUHP in conjunction with Article 20 letter c KUHP, and Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) KUHP in conjunction with Article 20 letter c KUHP.
Both articles regulate acts of maltreatment causing serious injuries and premeditated maltreatment with a penalty of 4-8 years’ imprisonment.
The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred on 12 March, when he was passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by soldiers from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais). As a result of the attack, the human rights activist suffered burns over more than 20 percent and has undergone eye surgery several times.
There are four suspects whose case files will be transferred to the Jakarta Military Court. They are NDP, SL, BHW, and ES from the air and sea branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant.
This number is far fewer than the findings of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Andrie’s legal team. The team suspects there were 16 field perpetrators involved in the incident. TAUD representative Alghiffari Aqsa stated that the suspicion comes from TAUD’s internal findings from an investigation based on recordings from 37 surveillance cameras around the scene on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta.
“So we adjusted several CCTV footages and compared them, it turns out these people were coordinating. It turns out these people were at the same point. It turns out these people were signalling to each other,” he said during a working meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives at the DPR complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
The TNI Information Centre Chief, Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, has not yet responded to confirmation requests regarding the progress of the investigation and the potential for other perpetrators beyond the four personnel named as suspects.
