First hearing for ex-customs official Budiman Bayu Prasojo set for 28 July

The first hearing for the alleged corruption case involving former Head of the Customs Intelligence Section at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Budiman Bayu Prasojo, will be held at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 July. Central Jakarta District Court spokesperson Andi Saputra stated that the inaugural session, with the agenda of reading the indictment, will proceed after the case, numbered 41, was registered. The panel of judges assigned to the case comprises Presiding Judge Brelly Yuniar, along with members Edward Agus and Hiashinta Manalu.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) previously conducted a sting operation within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise on 4 February 2026. The following day, the anti-graft body named six suspects in a bribery and gratuity case related to the import of counterfeit goods. Three of those suspects are former officials of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance who have already stood trial: former Director of Enforcement and Investigation Rizal, former Sub-Directorate Head of Intelligence Sisprian Subiaksono, and former Head of the Customs Intelligence Section Orlando Hamonangan.

The other three suspects are Blueray Cargo owner John Field, Blueray Cargo Import Documentation Team Head Andri, and Blueray Cargo Operational Manager Dedy Kurniawan. John Field, Andri, and Dedy Kurniawan were sentenced during a verdict hearing on Friday, 10 July. During the sentencing of these three defendants, the name of the Director General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance, Djaka Budi Utama, was mentioned as having received Rp21 billion in bribes from John Field. The KPK subsequently named Budiman Bayu Prasojo as a new suspect on 26 February 2026.
