JAKARTA - A member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives from the PDI-P faction, Muhamad Abdul Azis Sefudin, has urged the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to ensure that all services for Hajj pilgrims operate optimally from the beginning of their departure. The first batch of Hajj pilgrims for 2026 is set to depart on 22 April tomorrow. “This first batch will serve as a benchmark for overall service readiness. Therefore, we in Commission VIII of the House of Representatives encourage the Ministry of Hajj to provide optimal services and ensure there are no obstacles in terms of transportation, accommodation, or health services for the pilgrims,” Azis stated in his comments on Tuesday (21/4/2026). He hopes that the Ministry of Hajj, as the main implementer, can orchestrate the execution well. “I emphasise the importance of solid coordination among officials, both domestically and in Saudi Arabia, so that the process from departure to arrival of the pilgrims runs smoothly,” he added. “I do not want the problems from previous Hajj implementations to recur in this year’s pilgrimage,” Azis continued. He requested that accompaniment and health services for elderly pilgrims be ensured to run at maximum capacity. “Elderly pilgrims must be a priority. From the departure process, during their stay in the holy land, to their return, everything must receive extra attention,” Azis said. Meanwhile, Azis stated that the House of Representatives will continue to monitor the implementation of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to ensure it meets the established service standards. Azis hopes that this year’s Hajj organisation can run better and provide comfort for all Indonesian pilgrims. “We want to ensure that pilgrims can perform their worship calmly, devoutly, and without being burdened by technical issues that should have been anticipated from the start,” he added.
