First Foldable iPhone Set for 2026 Release, Name Similar to Samsung Phone

Reports indicate that Apple will launch its first foldable phone in 2026, with the name recently revealed. Apple is naming its first foldable phone exactly like Samsung’s devices with the ‘Ultra’ suffix, namely iPhone Ultra. This latest report differs somewhat from previous rumours that the book-style foldable phone would be called iPhone Fold. The name also marks the debut of ‘Ultra’ in the iPhone lineup. Apple is not following its usual pattern of standard, Pro, and Pro Max models. Sources cited by Macworld explain that this decision will position Apple’s foldable phone as a premium offering distinct from its existing device lineup. As such, the iPhone Ultra will become a separate product line. A similar strategy was previously applied to the iPhone Air, the company’s thin phone. However, the use of ‘Ultra’ is not new for Apple. Previously, there was the Apple Watch Ultra, which is differentiated from other Apple Watch series. It is reported that Apple is also using the ‘Ultra’ name for its latest MacBook. Mashable notes that this marks an expansion of its premium product line. The MacBook Ultra will feature a touchscreen OLED display, the first for a laptop. It is reported that the new lineup will be launched in the first half of 2027, delayed from originally the end of this year due to ongoing RAM supply issues that have persisted for some time. Meanwhile, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will be launched at the end of this year. It is rumoured that the device will share the stage with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
