The Indonesian financial industry has entered a new chapter with the launch of the first digital-based pension fund, which is expected to strengthen long-term investment and expand financial inclusion. This innovation is a strategic step towards deepening the capital market and improving the public’s financial readiness for retirement. The launch of the Sinarmas Asset Management Financial Institution Pension Fund (DPLK SAM) at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) in Jakarta on Friday (3/7) marks a significant milestone, as it is the first pension fund in Indonesia established by an investment management company. The institution received approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on 5 June 2026. The presence of DPLK SAM is expected to strengthen the national investment ecosystem, given that pension funds are institutional investors that play a crucial role in providing long-term funds for the capital market and development financing. PT Sinarmas Asset Management President Director Alex Setyawan W K stated that the launch of DPLK SAM is not merely a business expansion, but also a contribution to strengthening the public’s financial resilience. ‘As the first investment manager to establish a DPLK, we aim to present a modern, easily accessible digital-based pension service that is relevant to the needs of today’s generation,’ he said. The founding company is currently listed as one of the five largest investment managers in Indonesia, with total assets under management reaching IDR 64.8 trillion as of February 2026. These funds originate from 34 mutual fund products, Real Estate Investment Funds (DIRE), and discretionary fund management contracts, supported by a network of 23 branch offices across various regions. Despite the significant potential, public participation in pension programmes remains relatively low. With Indonesia’s population exceeding 280 million and a workforce of more than 150 million, pension fund membership is still far from optimal. To address this challenge, DPLK SAM introduced the SimPensiun digital platform, which allows the public to register, monitor fund performance, change investment options, and claim pension benefits online. Stephanus Rudi Ok, Chairman of DPLK SAM, noted that changes in work patterns and the lifestyles of younger generations demand a new approach in the pension fund industry. ‘The younger generation is very close to digital technology and has different investment characteristics compared to previous generations. Therefore, we provide a service that is easily accessible via an app, flexible, transparent, and affordable,’ he said. He added that the public can start building their pension funds with monthly contributions starting from IDR 50,000. The target participants are not only formal workers but also informal workers, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and even content creators who have largely been underserved by pension programmes. In addition to serving individual participants through the Defined Contribution Pension Programme (PPIP), DPLK SAM also offers institutional services, including PPIP, Post-Employment Compensation Funds (DKPK), periodic pension benefit payments, and children’s education funds. ‘The launch of DPLK SAM is in line with OJK’s policy of continuously encouraging the transformation of the pension fund industry through service digitalisation, governance strengthening, membership expansion, and increased long-term investment,’ he said. In its first year of operation, DPLK SAM targets managed funds of IDR 150 billion with 15,000 participants. This target will be pursued through continuous financial education and literacy, utilisation of digital platforms, and strengthening distribution networks.
