First Day of WFH, Cak Imin Says It Is Effective in Reducing Fuel Consumption

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, stated that the implementation of the first day of work from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) is effective in reducing fuel oil (BBM) consumption.

“Yes, earlier I monitored WFH in government centres, and indeed, traffic was smooth, with no build-ups or congestion that consumes large amounts of BBM. This means WFH is effective in reducing BBM consumption,” said Cak Imin when giving a statement after the Halal Bihalal and Cadre Appreciation event at the PKB DPP Office, Jakarta, on Friday (10/4/2026).

According to him, in the future, the government needs to find ways to ensure WFH remains productive.

“So that employees and all parties opting for WFH maintain their productivity,” he continued.

Cak Imin emphasised that the implementation of WFH does not disrupt public services.

This is because ASN directly involved in these functions work as usual and do not participate in WFH.

Work from home (WFH) for one day a week for civil servants (ASN) officially takes effect starting Friday (10/4/2026).

This flexible work policy is newly applicable, considering that Friday (3/4/2026) was a public holiday commemorating the death of Isa Almasih.

The implementation of WFH for ASN every Friday is one of the government’s policies to save or achieve efficiency, particularly regarding energy, following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.

He mentioned that the four-day workweek policy has previously been implemented in several ministries and agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Airlangga also emphasised that public services will continue to run despite the WFH policy every Friday.

“Public services will continue to operate, and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will proceed. Those in the offices are permitted to arrange it using certain applications,” said Airlangga.
