First Batch of Indonesians Evacuated from Iran Targeted to Arrive on 9 March
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Acting Director for Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), Heni Hamidah, reported that the first evacuee batch of Indonesian citizens from Iran is set to arrive in Indonesia on 10 March 2026. ‘The first batch may be 9-10 March 2026,’ she said at the Kemlu building in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026. However, the date is not yet certain. ‘But we will see, we will update when they arrive, because we still see which international airports are open,’ she added. The government through RI Kemlu is only evacuating Indonesians in Iran; other countries in the region have not yet had evacuation plans. Heni revealed that the initial phase began on Friday (6 March 2026) with 32 people. ‘Regarding Iran, as has been often stated there are 329 Indonesians there, most of whom are in the city of Qom,’ she said. Of that number, the majority are students pursuing studies in Iran. She reported that the first phase will go via Azerbaijan. However, subsequent routes will be adjusted to real field conditions and determined by RI representatives at the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran (KBRI Tehran) and the Indonesian Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan. ‘For plans for further evacuations, the Indonesian Government will decide after considering security assessments and other aspects,’ she said. ‘Including assessments from KBRI Tehran as the Kemlu representation that has the capability to provide the most complete assessments,’ she added. She stated that KBRI Tehran will continue to communicate and reach out to Indonesians still in Tehran, whether residing there or currently in Iran.
