Semiconductor company Nvidia has officially introduced its latest superchip, named RTX Spark. This chip is specifically designed to deliver next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) technology to laptops and Windows PCs.

Technically, the RTX Spark is a fully integrated System on Chip (SoC) based on the ARM architecture. The chip combines an Nvidia Grace 20-core CPU with an Nvidia Blackwell RTX GPU featuring 6,144 CUDA cores, interconnected via high-speed NVLink-C2C technology. Nvidia claims that the RTX Spark can maximise AI performance up to 1 petaflop, meaning the chip can perform approximately 1,000 trillion operations per second. Furthermore, the chip is manufactured using 3-nanometer (3nm) fabrication technology from the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Laptops powered by the RTX Spark are capable of running AI models with 120 billion parameters locally, thanks to unified memory of up to 128 GB. This means these devices possess much more complex ‘knowledge’ and reasoning capabilities, similar to a data centre server, without having to rely constantly on internet connections or cloud services.

According to reports from The Verge, the following laptops are confirmed to feature the Nvidia RTX Spark chip:

Microsoft’s upcoming device is set to be among the first to utilise the RTX Spark chip, specifically prepared to boost various advanced AI features within Windows. This model is a more compact version of the P16, featuring a 14-inch OLED display with elegant colour options similar to its larger counterpart. The screen utilises a Tandem OLED panel with True Black HDR 600 standards, and the laptop includes a built-in SD card reader and an HDMI port. This device targets content creators, gamers, and AI developers, as the high AI processing power of the RTX Spark is claimed to accelerate power-hungry applications.

Similarly, the Ultra 16 model is aimed at creators and gamers but features a more compact 14-inch screen for better portability. Lenovo has introduced a highly portable option that, despite having powerful graphics and AI processing capabilities, is claimed to be energy-efficient and capable of maintaining all-day battery life. For power management, MSI has equipped its model with a battery capacity of nearly 100Wh to support the productivity of professionals and gamers when not connected to a power outlet.
