Firms chided over labor violations
JEMBER, East Java: The Jember manpower office has reprimanded 44 companies for violating labor laws this year.
Hendro Budi Jatmiko, head of the labor supervision division of the office, said on Saturday that the firms had mostly failed to pay their workers the minimum basic wage and social security (Jamsostek) dues.
"Three of the 44 companies reprimanded are state-owned enterprises," said Hendro, adding that the Jember manpower office had sent four of the companies letters threatening them with legal measures.
Hendro, however, refused to reveal the names of the companies.
Jember legislative member Madini Faruq, meanwhile, said that the manpower office had failed to give maximum protection to workers in the regency.
"Legislature Commission E will soon hold a meeting with Jember manpower officials and leaders of the firms," he said. --Antara
