Firms barred from dumping liquid waste

BOGOR (JP): Three chemical companies in Bogor have been temporarily barred from dumping waste into Cileungsi river after residents complained they were unable to use the river due to pollution.

Bogor administration spokesman Helmi Gustian said the public complained they could not use the water anymore because of its dark color and severe contamination.

Helmi, however, declined to name the companies.

"Actually, the three companies are equipped with wastewater treatment facilities, but nearby residents found that the water was still being polluted," Helmi said.

It is unclear whether the three companies will continue operations. (24/edt)
