Firm Action by UI: 16 FH Students Involved in Harassment Suspended, Banned from Classes and Campus
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Universitas Indonesia has imposed a temporary academic suspension on 16 students from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia (FH UI) who are suspected of being involved in sexual harassment cases against 27 students and lecturers at the faculty.
This suspension is effective from 15 April to 30 May 2026.
“During the suspension period, the suspects are not permitted to participate in any educational activities or teaching and learning processes,” stated Erwin Agustian Panigoro, Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs at UI, in a written statement confirmed by Kompas.com on Thursday (16/4/2026).
“This includes lectures, academic guidance, or any other activities related to academic pursuits,” he added.
Erwin further explained that UI is also limiting the suspects’ involvement in student organisation activities.
Intensive monitoring is being conducted to prevent direct or indirect interactions with victims or witnesses during the examination process.
“This step is taken as part of the university’s commitment to ensuring the examination process runs objectively,” Erwin said.
Additionally, this policy aims to protect all involved parties and maintain a conducive academic environment.
Erwin revealed that the temporary suspension is based on a recommendation from UI’s Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force dated 15 April 2026.
“This recommendation is part of the follow-up steps to ensure the examination process runs optimally, objectively, and fairly,” Erwin stated.
Previously reported, 16 UI students are suspected of committing sexual harassment against female students at the faculty.
The case went viral on social media, triggered by the circulation of sexually suggestive conversations in a group chat.
Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, Chair of the Faculty of Law Student Executive Board (BEM FH UI), stated that all the perpetrators are students from the 2023 intake.
