Firefighters are still tackling a blaze at a plastic manufacturing plant in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. The firefighting operation has been underway for more than 30 hours.

Cooling operations are ongoing, said Achmad Saiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for Firefighting and Rescue at West Jakarta Fire Service (Gulkarmat Jakbar), on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. The firefighting effort has been in progress since Monday, 18 May, at about 14:31 WIB. Cooling work began at 16:20 WIB yesterday.

The Jakarta Fire Service Command Centre said that as of 21:03 WIB tonight, firefighters were still spraying water onto materials inside the building located at Jalan Peternakan Raya, Gang Semut, RT 06 RW 04, Kapuk Village, Cengkareng District.

Reportedly, the number of fire appliances at the scene has increased to 27 with 135 personnel. ‘The fire status is cooling,’ the officer said. Firefighters are continuing to spray water to ensure the blaze is completely extinguished. They are also clearing materials inside the building to extinguish remaining embers.

Cooling operations have been prolonged by the size of the area affected, around 1,000 square metres. Three people were injured in the incident, comprising two officers and one civilian.

‘Chronology: a worker on site suddenly observed the fire intensifying inside the cardboard and plastic storage warehouse, reported it to security and attempted to put it out with a handheld fire extinguisher, after which security contacted the fire service,’ he said.

The fire service briefly deployed a robot to aid in firefighting. The robot was used to search inside the building for hazardous gases and other potential dangers.
