Firefighters Struggle to Extinguish Fire at Jatibarang Landfill in Semarang

Firefighters from the Semarang City Fire Department conducted cooling operations at Zone 3 of the Jatibarang Landfill in Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday (29/09/2026). These efforts follow a fire that erupted on Monday (28/09) at approximately 22:20 WIB. Seven fire engines were deployed after the flames were seen to be quite large in the area.

Officers sprayed water across several points within the Jatibarang Landfill area to ensure that embers and heat sources were completely extinguished. The area affected by the fire is estimated to cover approximately 1,000 square metres. As of Tuesday morning, personnel were still performing cooling procedures because several small hotspots required attention to prevent the fire from expanding again.

Activities at Zone 3 of the Jatibarang Landfill continued through the cooling stage after the flames were successfully brought under control. This fire occurred despite routine prevention efforts previously undertaken, which included cooling the landfill area to reduce the potential for hotspots during the dry season. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire on Monday night remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
