Firefighters Still Battling Ship Fire in North Jakarta

Jakarta - Firefighters from the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-agency are still working to extinguish a fire that destroyed several traditional vessels at Muara Baru Pier, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Thursday evening. A total of 11 fire engines with 60 personnel, along with one boat from the Muara Angke community, were deployed to fight the flames. The firefighting operation began at 7:50 PM local time, and by 9:32 PM, the situation was in the cooling-down phase. The vessels involved were reportedly decommissioned boats being dismantled for their timber by the owner. The fire originated on the KM Sabang and spread to the KM Baruna Jaya. Officials are still gathering information regarding the suspected cause of the fire and the estimated losses, with the incident remaining under investigation.
