Firefighters Extinguish 15-Hectare Land Fire in North Jakarta

The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) extinguished a 15-hectare land fire on land owned by PT Jasameral at Jalan Pluit Mas Utara, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, on Friday afternoon.

“The object on fire was reeds covering an area of 15,000 square metres,” said Gulkarmat Operations Chief Gatot Sulaeman in Jakarta on Friday.

Gatot stated that officers received information regarding the fire at 1:58 PM WIB.

His department subsequently deployed personnel, including a total of three fire engines and 15 personnel, to handle the blaze.

“It took us one hour to extinguish the land, and the fire was successfully put out by 3:15 PM WIB,” he said.

He noted that the reed fire was suspected to have been caused by intense heat, which triggered the flames.

The fire was only discovered when patrol officers on the toll road spotted plumes of smoke rising from the reeds along the side of the motorway.

“Due to the vast area of the burning reeds, toll road officers contacted the fire department to extinguish the fire,” he added.
