Firefighters Battle Jatiwaringin Landfill Blaze in Tangerang for Over 8 Hours

Firefighters are still working to extinguish a fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency, Banten. The suppression effort has been ongoing for approximately eight hours. “We are still extinguishing the fire, but it is under control,” said an officer from the Tangerang Regency Fire Department on Tuesday (30/6/2026) at 19.20 WIB. The Tangerang Regency Fire Department received information about the fire at the Jatiwaringin TPA at 11.10 WIB. The fire department has increased the number of fire engines deployed to the site, located in Buaran Jati, Sukadiri District, Tangerang Regency. The number of personnel deployed has also been increased to 45 people. “Now 10 fire engines have been deployed,” the officer said. It was reported that the object burning at the Jatiwaringin TPA is a pile of waste. The cause and chronology of the fire are not yet known. According to the fire department’s report, thick plumes of smoke emerged due to the hot temperature being doused with water. Firefighters are continuing to spray the fire area until the flames are declared extinguished. The fire spread to two hectares, triggered by strong winds. The Tangerang Regency Environmental and Hygiene Agency (DLHK) stated that the burned area at the Jatiwaringin TPA reached approximately two hectares. The fire spread due to strong wind gusts. “If totalled, the area could be more than two hectares. The fire started from a small hotspot on the west side this morning, which was then handled by our internal officers,” said Head of the Tangerang Regency DLHK Ujat Sudrajat. Ujat said the initial suspicion is that the fire started in the morning, with TPA Jatiwaringin officers seeing smoke emerging from the north side of the waste pile. According to him, the fire conditions were worsened by extreme weather with hot sun and strong winds that triggered the wider spread of the flames. “The wind gusts were quite strong, making it difficult and a race against time for officers in the suppression process,” he said.
