Firefighters battle for 8 hours to extinguish North Jakarta warehouse blaze
The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) battled for more than eight hours to extinguish a fire at two warehouses in the Cilincing area.
Kepala Seksi Operasi Sudin Gulkarmat Jakarta Utara dan Kepulauan Seribu, Gatot Sulaeman, stated that the firefighting operation began at 19:03 Western Indonesia Time and the flames were only fully extinguished by 03:37 the following morning. He noted that while the main fire was brought under control by 20:02, the cooling-down process required a significant amount of time, extending into Saturday morning.
The fire affected two warehouse buildings: one owned by PT Inova Nusantara, which stored water pump machinery, and another owned by PT Sahabat, which contained generator sets. The total area destroyed by the fire was 250 square metres.
A total of 85 personnel and 17 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze at the premises owned by a man named Hendrik Saputra. Gatot confirmed that by the morning, the fire was completely extinguished and the situation was under control.
