Firefighter who died on duty reportedly had history of heart disease

A firefighter named Andriyono, who passed away while managing a rubbish fire at a site on Jalan Penggilingan Baru 1, East Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon, is reported to have had a history of heart disease.

“The deceased was known to have a history of heart disease,” stated the Head of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Bayu Megantara, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Andriyono, who served as the Squad Leader for the Cepu Group in the Cipayung Sector, East Jakarta, was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 PM WIB after receiving intensive care at Harapan Bunda Hospital.

According to Bayu, firefighting efforts lasted from 7:00 AM to 11:35 AM on Saturday, followed by cooling operations at the site from 12:00 PM until Sunday morning.

“While connecting a hose, the deceased suddenly complained of chest pain,” Bayu said. To avoid further risk, Andriyono’s colleagues immediately transported him to Harapan Bunda Hospital in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.

“The medical team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, the deceased was pronounced dead at 1:30 PM WIB. It is known that the deceased had a history of heart disease,” Bayu added.

Following the incident, the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service expressed its deepest condolences to the family. Bayu also ensured that the agency would fulfil all the rights and entitlements of the deceased’s family in accordance with applicable regulations.
