Firefighter Receives Threats After Creating Humorous Helmet Content, Home Address and Family Data Mentioned
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Firefighter Khairul Umam claims to have received intimidating messages from an individual suspected of harassing him via the WhatsApp application. The sender not only made statements that constituted threats but also mentioned Khairul’s personal data and that of his family. Khairul stated that the perpetrator knew the complete address of his house as well as the address of his wife’s house. Even the names of his parents were mentioned in the message. According to Khairul, the messages were sent at two different times via private WhatsApp chat. He said he was surprised because the sender initially introduced himself as a fan, both of his comedy and as a firefighter. In the first conversation, the sender briefly conveyed a message for Khairul to be careful and protect himself. “It turned out that in the end, he said that I had to wear a helmet, take care of my safety, and ask to visit my parents,” said Khairul. However, the subsequent messages were considered to be increasingly intimidating. “It was subtle, but still subtle. Because he also said, ‘wait for my surprise for you’,” he said. Khairul believes that mentioning the address of his house and his family’s data made the situation feel threatening, even though it was conveyed in seemingly polite language. Khairul also confirmed that there was no narrative in his content that mentioned a specific institution. He realizes that public response to content is beyond his control. “What I can control is only what I create. If other people’s responses, that is beyond my control,” said Khairul. Although he confirmed that his family is currently safe, Khairul hopes that there will be no more similar messages disturbing him or his family.
