Firefighter Receives Threats After Creating Content About Helmets: 'Wait for Me, There's a Surprise'
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A firefighter, Khairul Umam, stated that he received threats after creating content that touched upon the use of helmets.
In the video, Khairul explained that helmets are designed to protect the head, not to injure it.
The content is suspected to have been misinterpreted as a dig at the alleged case of violence by police officers, in which a junior high school student died after being hit with a helmet.
Initially, the sender of the messages claimed to be a fan, both of Khairul as a comedian and as a firefighter.
“So, the threats were all on WhatsApp. Like what I posted on my story, at first, he claimed to be a fan and so on,” said Khairul when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday.
In the first message, the sender asked Khairul to be careful and advised him to protect himself.
“It turned out that in the end, he said that I should wear a helmet, protect myself, and ask to visit my parents,” said Khairul.
The second message was similar, accompanied by a sentence that made him feel threatened.
“It was subtle, but still subtle. Because he also said, ‘wait for me, there’s a surprise for you’,” he said.
“Thank God, for now, my family is still safe. Although he did provide the complete address of my house and my wife’s house. Luckily, he doesn’t know the address of my parents’ house,” he added.
Khairul emphasized that the content he created was purely for educational and entertainment purposes.
“I just said that wearing a helmet is for what purpose, to protect the head, not to injure people. So, yes, it’s true that the content is intended to be funny and just for laughs,” he said.
He also emphasized that there was no narrative in his content that mentioned or alluded to any specific institution.
He admitted that he could not control how each person understands the content he creates.
“If there are people who feel offended, what I can control is what I create. When it comes to the response from other people, I can’t control it,” he said.
