Firefighter Claims Content on Helmet Use is Purely Educational, Not a Jab

JAKARTA. KOMPAS.com - A member of the Depok City Fire Department, Khairul Umam, affirmed that the content he created regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) helmets aims to educate, not to criticize any specific party.

The content was linked to a case of alleged violence involving a member of the Indonesian Police’s Mobile Brigade (Korps Brimob Polri), where a junior high school student reportedly died after being allegedly hit with a helmet.

“I created the content simply to remind people how to use helmets, and those who use helmets are also my friends. There was no intention to criticize,” said Khairul when contacted by Kompas.com, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).

According to him, there is no narrative in his content that specifically mentions any institution.

He only wanted to remind people of the main function of helmets as head protection while driving.

“Do I have any narratives or captions that specifically lead to that direction, or are there any narratives that mention institutions or anything? No,” said Khairul.

He affirmed that the content he created is purely for educational and entertainment purposes.

Despite this, Khairul Umam admitted that he could not control how everyone interprets the content he creates.

He affirmed that he can only control the content and message of his content, not the public’s response.

Khairul also revealed that after the content went viral, he received threats through private messages on the WhatsApp application.

The threats Khairul received were in the form of threatening messages sent via private chat on WhatsApp.

The sender initially claimed to be a fan, then asked Khairul to be careful, advised him to stay safe, and even told him to “pay respects” to his parents.

“He told me that I should wear a helmet, take care of my safety, and ask me to pay respects to my parents,” said Khairul.

In another message, the sender wrote a sentence with an intimidating tone.

“It was subtle, but subtle. Because he also said, ‘wait, I have a surprise for you’,” said Khairul.
