Firecrackers, alcohol seized

MANADO, North Sulawesi: Police seized 589,626 firecrackers and
374,428 bottles of alcohol during its annual operation, code
named Lilin Samrat, this year.

All of the items confiscated were destroyed in the presence of
Manado Mayor Lucky Korah, according to Capt. Gatot R Handoko.

Handoko said Saturday that the operation aimed to control the
illegal sale of firecrackers and alcohol, which are banned in the
province because they tend to disrupt peace and order. (swe)
