Firecrackers

We had a peaceful afternoon in my garden with a couple of
friends on Sunday, Jan. 14, 1996, which still in the end was
spoiled by a series of firecracker detonations. Upon checking
with our "RT" I got the answer I had expected, namely that this
activity is supposed to welcome the forthcoming Ramadhan Fasting
Month.

Remembering last year's experience, I spontaneously made a bet
with a friend that soon there would be announcements in the
newspapers that the use of firecrackers is banned here in this
country. Thanks to The Jakarta Post I won my bet without having
to wait for too long.
