Firecracker Throwers Apologise to Angkot Driver in Tangerang; Case Resolved Amicably
Police secured three youths who went viral for throwing firecrackers at an angkot (public minibus) driver in Cipondoh, Tangerang City. The case concluded peacefully after both parties were brought together and the perpetrators apologised.
Senior Criminal Investigation Officer of Metro Tangerang City Police AKBP Parikhesit explained that following the video’s widespread circulation, his team swiftly conducted clarification, information gathering, and facilitated a meeting between both parties.
“We moved quickly to verify the circulating video. After conducting clarification with the victim and perpetrators, we facilitated a meeting to resolve the matter amicably while upholding legal principles and justice,” said AKBP Parikhesit on Friday (27 February 2026).
Two minibus drivers were identified as victims: Muhamad Gazali (51) and Marjono (51), who operate angkot B02 on the Cikokol-Ciledug route. The three perpetrators throwing firecrackers were identified as DA (20), RDS (16), and UPY (21).
The three perpetrators and both victims were brought together at Metro Tangerang City Police Headquarters. The parents of the three perpetrators also attended.
During the mediation forum, the perpetrators and their families directly apologised to the two drivers for their actions. They also pledged not to repeat such behaviour.
“The perpetrators recognised their mistake and apologised to the victims and the public. Both parties agreed to resolve this matter peacefully with a joint settlement agreement,” he added.
Meanwhile, Metro Tangerang City Police Chief Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari emphasised that the problem-solving approach was undertaken considering humanitarian aspects, the perpetrators’ age, and the social impact caused, without disregarding legal responsibility.
“We urge all members of the public, particularly teenagers, not to engage in actions that endanger themselves or others. Social media should not be a platform for seeking sensation in ways that violate the law,” said Jauhari.
The incident occurred on Jalan Maulana Hasanudin in Cipondoh District, Tangerang City, on Tuesday (24 February), when the youths threw firecrackers from a motorcycle into a moving minibus, causing the driver considerable alarm.
