Firecracker-laden balloon explosion in Blitar kills one, injures two
A firecracker-laden balloon explosion occurred in Tambakan Village, Gandusari District, Blitar Regency, on Wednesday, May 27, killing one person and injuring two others. The deceased was identified as IH (23), while the injured were ADR (11) and DS (12). Blitar Police Regional Public Relations Head, Aiptu Muheni, stated the incident was reported around 6:30 AM WIB, coinciding with Iduladha prayers. However, the three victims had been attempting to launch an unmanned balloon in a rice field at Dusun Tekik, Tambakan Village, Gandusari District, Blitar Regency. Tragically, the firecrackers attached to the balloon detonated while IH was holding it. “The balloon was fitted with firecrackers, which then exploded and struck the victim. IH sustained severe injuries,” Muheni explained. IH suffered severe injuries to his right arm, which was severed, as well as facial and abdominal wounds. “The victims were taken to Ngudi Waluyo Regional Hospital for treatment, but IH was pronounced dead,” he added. Muheni continued that police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident, including gathering witness statements and securing evidence. “Officers are continuing their investigation and deepening the case for further handling. We appreciate your patience,” he said.
