Fire victims to get temporary kiosks

JAKARTA: Hundreds of traders in Senen market who lost their kiosks to fire on Sunday will receive temporary kiosks within a month.

The director of PT Jaya Real Property Tbk, the developer and manager of the market, Diaz Moreno, said on Tuesday the company would need a month to build temporary kiosks in Blok V on the fifth, sixth and seventh floors of the market.

The construction will begin soon, he said in a report to the company's investment and development board, Antara reported.

More than 200 of 327 kiosks in Block IV of the market were destroyed by a fire that started at about 6:45 p.m. on Sunday.

The police are still investigating the cause of the fire, but some kiosk owners suspect arson because their leases expired in December and they had been asked to move to Block V because Block IV is to be replaced by a new building. --JP
