Jakarta (ANTARA) - Victims of the house fire suspected to be due to negligence at a garment factory on Jalan Tanah Sereal 13, Kelurahan Tanah Sereal, Kecamatan Tambora, Jakarta Barat, have finally received compensation funds.

The head of RT 10/RW 09 Tanah Sereal, Nanang, stated that the agreement was discussed before Eid al-Fitr.

“The timing, if I recall correctly, was a few days before Lebaran. There are notes with my administrators. But we have confirmed everything with Pak Lurah; it has been handed over,” Nanang said when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, a total of 29 houses were impacted by the fire in the area, namely 18 houses in RT 10 and 11 houses in RT 11.

The compensation claims will be made separately by each RT administrator with amounts according to the level of damage.

“For the amounts, the mechanism is like this. Each RT submits separately. So the amounts may differ, because RT 10 was the most affected,” he said.

According to Nanang, in RT 10 there are eight houses that were completely burned down while 10 other houses suffered minor to moderate damage. He also assured that the compensation funds will be adjusted to the damage experienced.

During the compensation fulfilment and house repair period, residents must evacuate or rent houses temporarily.

It is known that 29 houses were destroyed in the fire on Jalan Tanah Sereal 13 RT 11/RW 09 Tanah Sereal, Tambora, Jakarta Barat, on Friday (13/3) in the early hours.

The Head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), Suheri, said that information about the fire was known to nearby residents at 02:30 WIB.

“Residents who were playing karambol saw garment factory employees running around asking for help to try to extinguish the fire that was burning the garment machine on the first floor,” said Suheri.

However, Suheri said, the fire could not be extinguished and grew larger until it spread to the third floor via the fabric distribution route between floors.

The fire then grew until it spread to other buildings. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 08:39 WIB and immediately began extinguishing operations.

They deployed 31 units with 155 personnel to extinguish the fire that affected an area of 1,000 square metres.

As a result of the fire, 58 families with 231 people had to evacuate due to losing their homes. In addition, five personnel were reported injured during the extinguishing process.
