The fires that burned various items at the home of Mutfiana, known as Fia, a resident of Kasuran Mriyan X, Margodadi Village, Seyegan District, Sleman, have finally stopped. A total of 127 fires had terrorised Fia. Academics conducted research, and on Wednesday (17/6), the results were presented to Fia at the Sleman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) office. Fia stated the incidents began on 23 May 2026 and forced her to evacuate belongings from her house. Items burned by the fire terror included mats, clothing, furniture, and bags. “Thank God, the fires have not occurred again because we have emptied the house,” Fia said. After relocating flammable items, the fire terror gradually ceased. Fia plans to occupy the second floor of her home. “We moved to the upper house, which is indeed safe. The lower part is temporarily emptied. We are still parking elsewhere,” she said. Fia also addressed speculation that the mysterious fires stopped after CCTV cameras were installed. “If we still had items as before the CCTV was installed, there would be statements asking why no fires occurred after the cameras were put up. The reason is that before the CCTV installation, we had already relocated all flammable items,” she explained. Head of BPBD Sleman, Bambang Kuntoro, confirmed the research findings from academics had been handed over and the two CCTV cameras had been removed. “Mbak Fia came to the BPBD office representing her family to request the research, observation results from the team that investigated the fire phenomenon in Seyegan. The findings came from UGM, UPN, and BPPTKG,” Bambang told reporters. Sleman Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP Mateus Wiwit Kustiyadi, said authorities are investigating whether there was any element of intent. “We are still gathering information to determine if there are factors beyond natural phenomena, so the facts will be revealed,” Wiwit said. Fia and her family have welcomed the police investigation and pledged full cooperation. “My family and I are completely open to the police inquiry. If anything is needed, we will make every effort,” Fia stated. Research from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), UPN ‘Veteran’ Yogyakarta, and BPPTKG has not found evidence of natural phenomena in the fire terror. Fia firmly denied the fires were deliberate, noting the destroyed items were the fruits of her family’s hard work. “We saved up to buy a spring bed, saved up to buy clothes. How could we be so heartless, and what would the motive be? It was not easy to obtain; it required a long process. There is no way we burned it ourselves,” Fia insisted.
