Fire Strikes Tegalgubug Textile Market in Cirebon Again, Just Days After Previous Blaze
CIREBON – The Tegalgubug clothing market in Cirebon was engulfed by a major fire on Saturday night (1/8/2026). It was the second fire to strike the market, located on the Cirebon-Jakarta bypass road, within the past week.
Previously, a severe fire had hit the market on Tuesday (28/7/2026). As with last week’s incident, this fire also broke out in Block III As-Syafi’iyah, RT 02 RW 05, Tegalgubug Village, Arjawinangun District, Cirebon Regency.
Eno Sujana, Head of the Extinguishing, Rescue and Infrastructure Division (PPSP) at the Cirebon Regency Fire and Disaster Management Agency, said the fire report was first received by the Arjawinangun fire station. In response, firefighters immediately headed to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers saw the flames had already grown large and spread to several trading stalls. Whilst laying out hoses to extinguish the fire, officers requested additional fire engines from the Palimanan, Weru and Sumber sectors to minimise the spread of the flames and maintain water supplies.
“According to the security guard on duty at the market, the fire was first noticed at around 21.19 Western Indonesian Time. The security guard and residents attempted to put out the fire with whatever tools they had, but it only grew larger,” said Eno on Sunday (2/8/2026).
The incident was then reported to the Tegalgubug military neighbourhood officer, who passed the report on to the Arjawinangun fire station. The extinguishing operation was directly led by the agency head, the PPSP division head and several fire station commanders. Four water cannon units and one water supply vehicle were deployed in the operation.
The fire was eventually extinguished, followed by a cooling-down process until 23.20 Western Indonesian Time to ensure no embers remained.
“The fire is initially suspected to have originated from a cable connected to the electricity meter (KWH) in the middle-western part of Block E, then spread eastwards,” Eno explained.
The electrical short circuit during the fire then produced sparks at one of the stalls in Block E. The flames subsequently spread rapidly to the other stalls.
“The fire burned 45 trading stalls in Block E and one stall in Block H. The estimated losses are not yet known,” said Eno.
He confirmed there were no casualties in the incident, as there were no trading activities at the time and the stalls appeared to contain no goods for sale.
