Fire Services: 620 People Left Homeless Following Kemayoran Blaze
The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) has recorded that 620 individuals from 330 heads of households lost their homes following a fire in Kemayoran on Monday night.
“Approximately 620 people have lost their homes,” stated the Head of Central Jakarta Gulkarmat, Syarifudin, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Syarifudin detailed that the fire affected 500 people residing in RT 12 to RT 16, RW 4, and an additional 120 people in RT 01-03, RW 5, within the Kebon Kosong sub-district. The blaze resulted in the displacement of 330 families in the Kebon Kosting area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
He noted that firefighters encountered difficulties in managing the fire because many residents gathered to watch the incident, and the narrow access to the houses hindered operations. Furthermore, some residents were seen rushing to save their personal belongings.
Due to these obstacles, the fire was only successfully localised at approximately 23:30 WIB, following an initial report at 21:05 WIB. The operation involved the deployment of 35 fire engines and 175 personnel.
“We received the information at 21:00 WIB, and officers managed to localise the fire by 23:30 WIB. The extinguishing operation finally concluded at 04:15 WIB,” he added.
