Fire reignites at Tambora, West Jakarta site as fire service extinguishes blaze
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Flames reignited at the site of a fire on Jalan Krendang Barat, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Friday (29 May 2026) evening.
Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), confirmed the rekindling of flames at 8:55pm WIB.
He stated that the fire reappeared at the same location as the major blaze that occurred on Thursday (28 May 2026) evening.
The initial report of the fire reigniting came from residents who visited the Krendang Fire Station.
In response, firefighters were dispatched at 8:56pm WIB and arrived at 9:02pm WIB.
The fire was contained within a short time by 9:10pm WIB. However, cooling operations continued for approximately an hour until 10:19pm WIB to ensure no remaining hotspots.
“Eight fire trucks and 40 personnel were deployed to the scene. The situation is now green, with firefighting completed,” Syaiful said.
He suspects the fire reignited due to smouldering embers buried under the debris of the burned buildings.
“Yes, it seems so because there are still piles of items at the site,” he added.
In a video received by Kompas.com, large flames were seen burning within a densely populated residential alley.
Thick black smoke rose high, accompanied by panic among residents at the scene.
Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), confirmed the incident.
“Correct, we received a report of a residential fire at 7:47pm WIB. Initial information came from a resident who directly reported to the Krendang Station,” Syaiful said when questioned on Thursday.
