Fire razes warehouse, causing losses at Rp 600m

JAKARTA (JP): A huge fire burned down a warehouse containing sewing equipment in Bojong village, Bintara, West Bekasi, on Saturday reportedly causing some Rp 600 million (US$55,500) in losses.

There were no casualties in the fire.

Jakarta Police records identified the owner of the industrial warehouse, as M. Amran, 59, a resident of Duta Kranji housing complex, on Jl. Borobudur in Bekasi.

"It took six fire engines to extinguish the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by lightning striking the roof of the industrial warehouse causing a short circuit. The incident occurred at about 7 p.m.," Brig. Tarsesius of the Jakarta Police information center said on Sunday.

"The warehouse was burned down, along with a pressing machine, at least four sewing machines, computers, and other equipment."

"The case is being handled by West Bekasi Police subprecinct," he added. (ylt)
