Fire razes teachers' homes

PEKANBARU, Riau: Fire razed nine semi-permanent houses belonging to local teachers on Thursday and also damaged a school building. The blaze panicked hundreds of students, who fled home.

The fire broke out after a kerosene stove in a house belonging to a teacher exploded. The flames quickly spread and gutted nearby buildings, witnesses said.

Seven fire trucks were dispatched to the scene but the only building that was not completely gutted was the school. No fatalities or injuries were reported during the blaze. -- Antara
